Enterprise Architecture 2.0 – Accelerating StatCan Modernization

Robert McLellan, Statistics Canada

Submitted to MSIS 2013 (i) Architecture

Statistics Canada launched its Corporate Business Architecture program in 2010, a modernization initiative across the Agency. With a focus on standardization, centralization, reuse, and governance, the program seeks to streamline statistical production while maintaining quality and relevance. A number of major business and IT initiatives are underway, supported by architectural governance and standardization through its Enterprise Architecture activities.

In this paper we review our progress to date, and discuss lessons learned arising from our approach. We discuss the changes underway in our approach to enterprise architecture, and how we are incorporating international collaboration activities in our efforts. Finally, we discuss our expectations for plug and play, collaborative component sourcing, and the future of various standards and frameworks activities.
