Modernization of Statistical Production and Services

Many statistical organisations are interested in sharing statistical software tools to improve efficiency. However, language is often a barrier, making it difficult and expensive to adapt tools developed by others. To help to overcome this, the Sharing Advisory Board (which is overseen by the High-Level Group) has recently released a set of "Principles and Guidelines on Building Multilingual Applications for Official Statistics".  The High-Level Group recommends these Principles and Guidelines to all statistical organisations:

Statistical organisations are coming under increasing pressure to improve efficiency. At the same time, there are growing demands to reduce the burden placed on respondents to statistical surveys. Statisticians are increasingly considering alternatives to the traditional survey approach to collecting data. Perhaps the most obvious answer is to see if usable data already exist. Data collected and held by non-statistical organisations may provide a more cost-effective alternative. This handbook examines the issues involved with using non-statistical sources, and gives practical examples of how those issues can be resolved.
