eDAMIS is Eurostat's system for data exchange with countries:
All the components of eDAMIS are developed by Eurostat. Part of them (mainly eDAMIS Web Application EWA) are to be installed in Member States.
The development is driven by user needs. The Local Coordinator working group is the driving force for development of new functionalities or evolution of existing ones. Those persons are representing their country and are nominated by the director general of national statistical institute.
The progress is presented at the bi-yearly meeting (spring and autumn). Countries are requested to set priorities between possible requests for change.
We have made available a simple interface so that new request could be entered (part of the support web site see below).
Eurostat have used CIRCA to create a web site for support (http://circa.europa.eu/irc/dsis/edamis/info/data/website/index.htm). The web site is publicly available. Countries could find there all documentations, manuals, installation guides and software to be downloaded.
We have setup a support team that could be reached using a functional mailbox in Eurostat. We are able to make on site support when necessary (2 visits to countries in 2009).
Eurostat is available to organise training session in countries.
Training session are done on 1 or 2 days basis (depending of number of attendees).
Usually this is the opportunity to enhance collaboration with Local Coordinators.
As we have a large variety of organisations with very variable rules and policies the flexibility of the team and tools is very important.
Local Coordinators have very different profiles and skills. It is very important to have as much as possible central configuration of tools (meaning means and control available in Eurostat).
