2.1 NEW WORK=20
=E2=80=A2 Feasibility study on a Virtual Tourism Observatory (contract e= xpected to run until January 2013).=20
2.2 ONGOING WORK=20
=E2=80=A2 Conducting Flash Eurobarometer surveys about tourism (followin= g the 2009, 2010 and 2011 exercises, a survey is foreseen to be carried out= in January 2012).
=E2=80=A2 On the basis of an agreement which sets the framework for coop= eration, the ILO and the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) will continue c= ollaborating in the area of employment and decent work in tourism. The agre= ement was approved by the ILO Governing Body at its 301st Session (March 20= 08) and ratified by the General Assembly of the UNWTO. Prior to the agreeme= nt, a new chapter on employment in the tourism industries was prepared and = included in the 2008 International Recommendations for Tourism Statistics.<= /p>=20
=E2=80=A2 The agreement is geared towards (a) improvement of reliability= of data on employment in the tourism industries; (b) setting up and testin= g of a core set of decent work statistical indicators for measuring progres= s towards decent work in the tourism industries; (c) development of interna= tional guidelines on best practices of measuring employment in the tourism = industries.=20
=E2=80=A2 In line with the agreement, a joint ILO/UNWTO publication enti= tled Technical Guide on Best Practices of Measuring Employment in the Touri= sm Industries will be prepared and published in 2012. The Guide will become= an integral part of the International Recommendations for Tourism Statisti= cs 2008 Compilation Guide to be produced in 2012 by te UNWTO and the UNSD.<= /p>
To meet the 2012-2016 Mandate of the Tourism Committee: a) improve the m= easurement of tourism services in OECD economies by addressing government a= nd industry information needs and promoting the tourism satellite account; = b) contribute to the dissemination of data on tourism economics and to a mo= re effective use of such data for business and policy analysis and decision= -making processes; and c) work in complementarity with other international = organisations.=20
Objectives and outputs=20
In 2012, the third edition of "OECD Tourism trends and policies 201= 2" will be released. For the first time, it will be undertaken in coop= eration with the European Committee. It will therefore contain augmented st= atistical data on member and selected non-member countries (54 countries). = These data will be collected by two methods: a questionnaire will be addres= sed to countries; data extracted from OECD data bases. On the other hand, e= fforts will be made towards the dissemination of data and analysis on touri= sm economics at national and local levels. Special efforts will tend to pro= mote the use of Tourism Satellite Account to public and private tourism sta= keholders. In 2012, the activity on "Evaluating and Measuring Competit= iveness in Tourism" will aim to identify a set of core/key indicators = for measuring the overall performance and competitiveness of a country in t= ourism. At a later stage it will also include a pilot testing with voluntar= y countries.=20

The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Statistics Department collects, a= nalyzes, publishes, standardizes and improves tourism statistics, and promo= tes the integration of these statistics within the sphere of the United Nat= ions system.=20

To foster the comparability of tourism statistics and the macroeconomic = analysis of tourism activities by means of internationally agreed standards= , and to design the required guidance, initiatives and tools (e.g. TSA) for= their implementation.=20
