1. Project Name
Creation of Business Process Modelling and Business Transactions Class Diagram
Version: 2
2. Objectives
2.1. Purpose
The purpose of the project is to create Business Process Models and the Business class diagrams for documenting business scenarios and the business transactions involved in the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) process. The output will be used to obtain and validate the XML messages to support the business transactions.
2.2. Scope
GHS takes an internationally-harmonized approach to classification and labelling of chemicals. The labelling system sets standards to assist with global trade of chemicals and ensures safe use, transport, and disposal of these chemicals. GHS covers all hazardous chemicals and includes material safety data sheets, symbols, and labels with target audiences, including consumers, workers, transport workers, and emergency responders.
GHS includes harmonized:
- criteria for classifying substances and mixtures according to their health, environmental and physical hazards; and
- hazard communication elements, including requirements for labelling and safety data sheets.
Regulatory authorities in countries adopting the GHS will take the resulting set of UN/CEFACT core components and schema to implement them through their own regulatory procedures.
(This project is a follow on to the recently completed MSDS Project)
3. Deliverables
The deliverables from the project are:
- A catalogue of Business Process Models covering the GHS process.
- A guide for users which enables them to select the model appropriate to their needs.
- A guide for users which enables them to select the relevant transaction appropriate to their needs.
- To provide the class diagrams of the business transaction for the creation of the XML schemas using the UN/CEFACT Core Components Technical Specification.
4. Functional Expertise of Membership
Membership is open to experts with broad knowledge in the area of classification and labelling of hazardous waste as well as chemical experts, the functions of UN/CEFACT, and its groups. In addition, Heads of Delegations may invite technical experts from their constituency to participate in the work. Experts are expected to contribute to the work based solely on their expertise and to comply with the UN/CEFACT Code of Ethics.
5. Geographical Focus
The focus is global within the functional area of the GHS process.
